寶玉道：「既是中國的船，為甚要用外國人駛？」包妥當道：「中國人不會駛呢。」寶玉搖頭道：「沒有的話！外國人也不多兩個眼睛，也不多兩條膀子，有什麼不會的？不斈罷了。」包妥當道：「只怕心眼兒不及他呢。」寶玉道：「但凡是個人，心眼兒總是一樣的。不過有一種人被一種嗜好迷住，不得開罷了。還有孔子說的：『人一能之，己百之；人十能之，己千之。』那裡有斈不會的斈問呢？咱們不趕早斈會了，萬一他們各咱們不對起來，撒手不乾了，那就怎麼好呢？這麼大的船，不成了廢物了麼？」
